Punch Needle Bunny Mirror

I’ve been learning punch needle since the tail end of last year. Recently, I have started exploring different projects I can use the technique for. During the month of March, I made several types of mirror and have now dubbed it March Mirror Madness, the crafty way to celebrate the sporty month. I had fun with it. This bunny mirror was so fun to make. I ended up gifting to my niece who is the sweetest little nugget of all time.

This post doesn’t contain the instructions for punch needling, but rather for the mirror project it self.

Supplies and Tools

• Basic Punch Needle Tools (I used the Amy Oxford punch needle #10 fine)

• Two Yarn Colors

• Hot Glue Gun

• Hot Glue Sticks

• 3” Round Mirror

• Bunny Pattern

• 6.25" x 4.75" Peice of Felt Backing

• Water Soluable Pen

Finished Size: 6" x 4.6"

Off to the races! Let’s get started.

1. Create bunny base using punch needle techniques. Start by removing your design from the hoop.

2. Use a water soluble pen to draw 1/2” outline around tufted edge. Do this for inner and outer edges. Cut along drawn lines.

3. Use scissors to notch (cut tiny triangles) into interior and exterior edge. This will make it easier to fold pieces in.

4. Apply small glue dots along each tab and fold toward center.

5. Apply thin line of glue along edge of mirror front. Then lay it face down. Press firmly on backside of mirror. Then apply more glue along edge of mirror to secure in place.

6. Also, cut a 10” long piece of yarn for hanger. The yarn hanger is optional. Glue yarn onto backside of ears. See placement below.

7. Cut a 4.75” x 6.25” size piece of felt. Then, use hot glue gun to generously apply glue on backside of tufted piece. Lay felt rectangle down on top and press firmly.

8. Once the glue is dry, carefully use scissors to cut off excess felt.

Optional: Use left over yarn to add a frame on interior edge of mirror. It’ s a nice finishing technique.
